Installation, use, and maintenance
The correct installation, reasonable use, and regular maintenance of the universal joint shaft are crucial for ensuring its work quality and service life. The following precautions are hereby proposed, and we kindly ask users to cooperate:
For the universal joint shaft with a retractable spline pair, it is necessary to check that the spline sleeve and the spline shaft match the marked position during installation to ensure that the phase difference between the two ends of the fork bearing hole axis does not exceed 1 °. Otherwise, it is impossible to make the angle between the driving shaft and the driven shaft equal, resulting in unexpected impacts during operation. The higher the rotational speed, the more serious the consequences.
Both ends of the universal joint shaft can be used as active or driven ends in principle. When installing, it should comply with the design drawings of the transmission system. However, the following two points should also be reminded to the user:
(1) The spline fitting should be kept as far away from vibration and impact sources as possible.
(2) Try to avoid dirt or water from entering the spline mating surface as much as possible.
Before installation, clean the rust proof grease on the flange joint surface and remove any unfavorable factors that may reduce the friction force or contact area of the joint surface.
Long term overloading and operational accidents should be avoided.
After working under load for one shift, the flange connection bolts should be checked for looseness and tightened again with the specified tightening torque. Repeat this process for several shifts until the tightening force stabilizes.
The joint bearings and spline joints of the universal joint shaft should be lubricated every 1-2 weeks under high temperature working conditions, every 500 hours of continuous operation under general working conditions, and every three months under intermittent working conditions. The grease grade should be No. 2 industrial lithium based grease.
In a normal working universal joint, the maintenance period is generally six months to one year or maintenance is carried out with the equipment. The maintenance and inspection items are:
(1) The bearing raceway, cross shaft, and rollers with wear or pressure gauge greater than 0.25 mm need to be replaced.
(2) The contact surface between the bearing end face and the retaining ring, as well as those with wear greater than 0.35mm, need to be replaced.
(3) If the surface wear of the spline pair is greater than 0.35mm, it needs to be replaced.
Appropriate safety measures must be taken in all locations where accidents to personnel and equipment may occur due to the operation of the universal joint shaft.
